Brainspotting
What is Brainspotting:
“Brainspotting locates points in the client’s visual field that help to access unprocessed trauma in the subcortical brain.”

Simply put brainspotting helps a client access parts of the brain that are not accessed during talk therapy. Brain based therapies can resolve issues that can take years of talk therapy to resolve. What is happening during brainspotting is that areas of the brain that are out of reach of the conscious are being accessed through brainspotting. This allows for healing without cognition and language.
You’ll hear your therapist say “just let the process happen. The brain knows what it needs to do to heal.”
What Happens in a Session:
Brainspotting is unique in the sense that you are using different spots in the room to focus on. These are called your brainspots. The spots were processing is going to happen.
You will be greeted by your therapist and have a chat about how things are going. You will be asked to pick something that is creating an emotional reaction in you and be asked where you feel that in your body. Once you identify where in your body you feel the reaction you will rate it on a scale of 1 to 10.
Your therapist will help you find your brainspot by using a baton and quiet music. Once your spot is found, you will process whatever comes up for you. There is no right or wrong way to process!
After processing your therapist will check in with you and you will again rate the feeling in your body on a scale of 0 to 10. Any movement, or no movement is fine – your brain is doing what it needs to do.
What it Treats:
Brainspotting has shown to be an effective type of therapy in the treatment of a wide range of emotional and somatic conditions including the following: anxiety, depression, performance anxiety, sport performance and sport anxiety, and trauma.
